Our Partners in the Gospel

Marshall, Verne & Alina

MarshallVerne and Alina were married in June 1980. They have been involved in ministry to youth in First Presbyterian Church in Tuscumbia, AL and in missions in Peru and since 1985 in Santiago, Chile working with the unreached people group of middle and upper classes numbering close to 800,OOO.

The goal is to plant three to five churches among the decision-making classes of Eastern Santiago. The method is to focus all effort on the first church which is the "Mother Church." Once the church reaches targeted size, it will spawn the daughter churches.

God has blessed the combined efforts of the church planting team and "Cristo Rey" (Christ the King) Presbyterian Church which has experienced uncommon growth in every area, and is pressing strongly in fulfillment of its vision.

In 1987 they went for two years to Cusco, Peru, to teach the children of MTW's missionaries there.

After returning to the States, David attended graduate shool in Michigan and became an instructor of physical sciencec at AUM in Montgomery, Alabama. Eastwood Presbyterian Church in Montgomery is the Martins' home church.

In 1998 they moved to Odessa, Ukraine, a port city on the Black Sea with over a million people. Since the fall of the USSR, an openness to the gospel has led to the formation of a Ukrainian Presbyterian denomination. The Martins teach the children of the MTW church-planting team in Odessa. Prayer Requests (as of April, 2007):

  • Praise: Cancerous tissue is shrinking! Prayer for her continued victory over it
  • Praise that Ricardo is cancer free, prayer for needed employment
  • CEPA, the only local seminary, has closed down. Pray for mentors & opportunities to train men for gospel ministry
  • Praise! San Marcos received 15 new members on Palm Sunday. I have been praying for 30 new members this year and that the sanctuary be full – we are making progress there. Not for the sake of numbers, but so that those in the international community can hear the gospel and experience the love of Jesus, and so that we can build a sufficient base large enough to call a full time pastor in the future.

Mylin, Mark & Marte

MylinMark and Marte are career missionaries and served first in Paris for six years under MTW but recently have relocated with GEM ( Greater European Missions) to the southwest of France in Montauban which is near Toulouse. Mark Pedrotti

PedrottiMark has served with Wycliffe Bible Translators since 1993, assigned to Information Technology Services at the JAARS Center in Waxhaw, North Carolina. Through partnerships worldwide, JAARS provides quality technical support services and resources to speed Bible translation for all people.

Since 2005, Mark has led a team that produces resources to help people use computers effectively in their ministries. Projects include computer training courses and online Help for several computer software programs used by Bible translators, online Help for the enterprise information system (intranet) of the Wycliffe and SIL family of organizations, and documentation for the redesigned business information system at JAARS.

Prayer Requests (coming soon):

  • Thank the Lord for providing three temporary volunteers, two part-time workers, and one student intern to work on the team during 2007.
  • During the transition of emphasis since 2005 from teaching on-site training courses to developing training materials for workshops and self-paced learning on the field, the workload has more than doubled, but all the other full-time team members moved on to other things. Pray for direction from the Lord about this gap.
  • Pray that the team can balance the directness sometimes required to obtain correct, clear, and complete technical information with the need to develop encouraging relationships with the coworkers who develop computer software products and systems.
