Richie, Merrily

RichieInfo/Bio: A native of Pennsylvania and a graduate from Covenant College Merrily was first exposed to missions and the Fresh Start Seminars, which minister to the separated and divorced, in 1990 during an eight week MTW/Impact trip to Australia. She continued to minister there for three years.

In 1997 Merrily began serving in London in a divorce recovery ministry with MTW. In London, the Lord gave Merrily new opportunities to serve: leading Divorce Care seminars and support groups, helping a number of UK churches minister to the estranged and divorced.

Since the fall of 2006 Merrily has been serving in Midrand, South Africa where she has had the opportunity to start new DivorceCare and GriefShare groups. She has been leading the staff in the “Boundaries” course and they have been enthusiastic about the study. Merrily has had some problems with the home she has moved into. The termite problem has been taken care of but the roof still leaks. She has started a Bible study with a non-Christian, and she is meeting with two other women for counseling.

Prayer Requests:

  • Pray for consistent attendance in the DivorceCare and GriefShare groups, for new people for both support groups, and for their planning for new support groups
  • Pray for Merrily’s health through the current cold months in South Africa
  • Merrily has joined a non-church club. Pray that she will have opportunities to witness and to invite people from this club to activities at church
  • Praise for opportunity to sing in the church choir
  • Pray wisdom to take on another prayer/counseling ministry at the church

Stanton, Dal & Beth

StantonDal was raised in South Florida, was saved by the Lord when he was 18, and was called into ministry soon after that. Beth, a covenant child, was raised in Mexico, the daughter of a PCA missionary and pastor. Dal and Beth were married in 1977 and have 5 children. Dal pastored two churches before responding to the call to serve with Mission to the World in 1993. After serving in Ukraine for eight years, the Stantons arrived in Spain in 2005 and God used their church-planting and leadership experience to establish the Madrid Church Planting Team.

Dal is presently leading the development of a new European MTW Short Term missions training program for young adults from US churches called EuroScope. In the context of MTW church planting teams, EuroScope nurtures young adults through Short Term missions experiences by assisting them to make the grace of Christ the foundation and core value for life and ministry and to grasp an understanding of cross-cultural issues and opportunities for ministry in Europe. The Stanton's plan to relocate in the fall of 2007 to Eastern Europe to launch EuroScope.

Prayer Requests (05/07):

  • Euroscope launch

Before, During & After

Sunday Breakfast Mission"In 1893, the group called the Christian Endeavor Society of Wilmington decided that they would attempt to reach out to the homeless men and “tramps” of Delaware. They wanted to bring them to church on Sundays. Hearing about a similar effort in nearby Philadelphia, they went there to study it.

They soon established an effort to provide:

  • A meeting each Sabbath morning for the homeless men and tramps
  • A free meal for these men
  • Effort to find work for these men.

Their ministry opened at 7th and Lombard in late 1893. But soon, in January 1894, they began to provide shelter.

Through the years and several locations, the Mission has gone way beyond “Sunday Breakfast” to reach out to children through Sunday schools and women through “Mother’s Clubs.” They also continued to expand their ministry to men. All of this effort carries the same Christian emphasis and content of that early Christian Endeavor Society: To provide rest for the body and peace for the soul.

  • Shelter for more than 165 homeless men nightly.
  • Long-term Discipleship Program for 45 men suffering from homelessness, addiction, and other major life problems.
  • Community meals for over 200 men, women, boys and girls nightly as well as food boxes for over one hundred needy families monthly, breakfasts for homeless men, and lunch for program people.
  • Free clothing and furniture with counseling for needy families through our Community Outreach.
  • Christian worship and Bible studies daily.
  • Great Thanksgiving Food Outreach providing over 500 annually with large food boxes, turkeys, pies, rolls, and access to other services.
  • Back-to-School Rally providing encouragement, positive messages, and backpacks with school supplies annually.
  • Career Education Center giving hundreds of individuals opportunity to learn to read, graduate from high school, and plan a new work life.
  • Thrift Store Ministry giving underprivileged families and individuals the opportunity to acquire desired materials unavailable otherwise because of cost.
  • Vehicle Donation and Resale providing low-cost vehicles to low-income families."
