  • Warm people. Knowing that all people are created in God’s image and need to be forgiven, restored, and healed, we seek to warmly welcome all. Click through to connect with ministries for men, women, youth, or children.

  • Joyful worship. We follow Biblical pattern of worship that is reflected in key passages of Scripture like the Lord’s Prayer and the call of Isaiah in the Old Testament (Isa. 6). Our preaching is Biblical and Christ centered, a combination that allows us to minister to long time Christ followers, new Christians and people with questions. We also have many talented musicians and use a wide variety of instruments to accompany our worship music.

  • Historic Roots. The EP congregation began in 1706 as one of the first Presbyterian churches in the United States, the Head of Christiana Church. In 1938 the pastor of Head of Christiana, Rev. Henry Welbon, and the congregation found themselves locked out of their sanctuary. They loved their heritage and their church building, but they believed that the denomination was not holding fast to the life-giving message of the gospel of Christ or trusting the reliability of the Word of God. So, they started a new work and EP Church is the fruit of their labor.

Our congregation is a member church of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). We embrace the Westminster Confession of Faith and Catechisms as our doctrinal standards. The Westminster Standards state that the Bible is the only rule of faith and practice for Christians. Part of honoring our history is seeking to keep in step with what the Holy Spirit is doing today. We are historic, but not nostalgic about the past.

  • Vibrant Heart for Missions. Supporting missions is part of our DNA as a congregation. We believe that a church should never exist for itself, but for the glory of Christ and the advancement of his kingdom. We are pleased to support career missionaries in every corner of the globe, as well as regional and local church planting.

We are the host church for Reformed University Fellowship (RUF) and International Friendships of Delaware. The University of Delaware is a major research university, recently rated #12 in the nation among public universities. It is a destination for international students as well. EP Church believes that God put us close to the University for a reason. We have a kingdom responsibility to bring the gospel to bear on the campus.

EP Church is not perfect. Yet by God’s blessing, we want to remain faithful to Christ, welcoming to new people, and a place where disciples are made for the glory of God.

We hope you will join us.
